Price adjustments in The Angry Weather shop

I have some interesting news today!

So, I was doing a bit of organizing my Etsy shop and decided to change back my shop currency to Canadian dollars, to make it easier for me to organize myself, price-wise. By doing so, I realized some of my prices needed a bit of an update. but this is awesome news because most items got around 10% to 15% off, AND, I decided all stud earrings would go $13 bucks down, yay! 

The only items that went up were the Tulip brooch and Tulip necklace and the Summer Solstice bracelet but just a few dollars up, to compensate on all the labour and time that goes into to making them. 

One of the reasons I decided to make this is to make my prices more apt for the local marketplace as, lately, it's been growing so much more locally. Hopefully this will be great news for fellow Canadians and everyone, really!

Nova Scotia

In August, we got to visit Nova Scotia once again. It feels now like a little tradition, in a way, to visit each summer. And we are very lucky because is a place like no other and going has been quite easy as Alex visits customers there every summer so we just tag along. So, is really not like a vacation because most time Alex is working but for Amelia and me is a great opportunity to explore, relax and enjoy the city and then, when Alex finishes his work there, we always take a few days off to explore together. 

Some years we have gone to Lunenburg and last year we visited Cape Breton. This time we stuck close to Halifax and we went to Peggy's Cove, which is one of my favourite places in the world (well, that whole coastal drive along the Atlantic is).

It doesn't mater how many times we visit, I honesty never bore of Nova Scotia, is one of the most beautiful places I know (the landscapes, the ocean, the lighthouses, the little boats, the colourful houses, the weathered fishermen towns!) and always feel so peaceful when I'm there, beside the Atlantic ocean.

Here, I'll share with you the photos I took with my regular camera the day we visited Peggy's Cove, which was a super windy and rainy day, the perfect weather to visit the place if you asked me ;) 

The first batch of pics, though, was taken at the Bas-Saint-Laurent which is here in Quebec, while on our way to the Maritimes . I hope you enjoy them!

If you ever have the chance to visit Nova Scotia, don't doubt it for a minute! You'll love it.

Etsy: Fait au Québec Montreal edition line up!

Once again, I'm part of the organizing team for Etsy: fait au Québec  market in Montreal and look: I'm in the poster! hahaha!

Etsy: fait au Québec is an Etsy Canada initiative to promote and celebrate local makers. On September 26th all across Canada, craft shows, markets and pop-up shops will host many of their local etsy sellers and open their doors to collectors and lovers of all things handmade. The Montreal market will be open for two days: September 26th and 27th at the Technopôle Angus in the Rosemont neighbourhood.

Last year the event was a huge success and this year we are planning more amazing things: We'll host more than 60 local makers, designers and artists + free workshops and live music for all our visitors to enjoy.

As part of Les joailliers du dimanche team on etsy, we were invited to take part of the organization of this event since last year and alongside the Montreal Etsy team, we have been working super hard to make this possible. Etsy teams are truly a wonderful thing and I've always loved being part of them. Working alongside other etsy team has allowed me and my team to get to know other like-minded people and put our ideas together to make something big. It has been an exciting journey and I hope you can come to our Montreal show and get to see all the things we have prepared for you!

Choosing the vendors is one of the hardest parts of all: We received more than 300 applications and we could only fit about 60 of them. We came up with a team of jurors that went through hours of studying amazing applications. We just hope we had a place for everyone of the makers that applied! At the end, we are very proud of our line up and we think you'll love it. Now, the stars of the show: our amazing makers, artists and designers!

Weekend

It has been a while! Things get busier and busier by the day and it's nice when I have time to come here and blog a bit. Blogging is one of those things that make me feel like I have time for my things, that I own it. Of course I don't own my time but the illusion of it feels pretty good! 

Last weekend we went camping, it as so much fun specially because there were many families and well, kids are funny and they keep you extremely busy so I didn't have time to complain about mosquitoes or be afraid about the snake I almost step in!

Heat wave

Unexpected.
The ways creativity hits you sometimes is quite amazing. I always find myself inspired by many things, as I'm sure every body does: you are reading a book, travelling, listening to a song, walking on the street, you find a beautiful branch or simply washing the dishes and then it hits you, bam! an idea that is full of possibilities.

Many months ago I was sleeping one night and I was dreaming: in my dream I was sitting on my bench, busy making a pair of earrings. The earrings were roundish, they were golden and on top of the gold piece there was a detail made of a silver metal that contrasted so nicely with the gold. The silver detail had this wavy shape on the bottom and they looked beautiful. First thing I did when I woke up was to run, open my sketch book and start drawing what I remembered. To my big surprise the following night the same happened, this time in my dream I was making a ring using the gold/silver material, just a simple band. Based on the earrings design/mix of metals I designed my new collection and when I was doing so, my awe was great as to the way everything had came, this unconscious idea, this unexpected gift from a dream. And now the collection is finished and I'm ready to show it and offer it to you! 

About dreams.
I couldn't be happier at how things came up: many dreams came to reality, not just literal dreams. One of them, to make a big necklace. The Heat Wave necklace is bigger than any necklace I've done before. I encounter a big problem when I was making it: I couldn't solder it with my torch, it wasn't potent enough. You see I have a portable torch, not a proper, professional one. The only solution is taking the big pieces of the necklace to a local studio so they can help me out with the soldering. This is opening new possibilities as I'm planning now on improving my work space to be able to get a decent torch at last and then I'll make it entirely at my studio!

Heat wave.
Once I sat at my bench to start making collection, all the colours and shapes started to make me think of the south of Mexico where I grew up: of the sun, the heat; I started seeing the shapes as metal melting and immediately started calling the collection 'heatwave'. For me this was a temporary name, something that came to my mind but I wanted to put it a name that reflected the way the collection was conceived but never came to think of anything and each day Heatwave grew more on me, now I believe it captures the feel of the collection entirely. 

So here it is, the work of a year at last available for you all to see and enjoy. I hope you love it as much as I do!


The rings.
I made three different rings for this collection: The heatwave, the Sunrise and the Sunset ring. 

The heat wave is just a big band that's tall on the front and gradually shortens on the back with a nice v detail. The Sunrise ring features a wavy design on the front, sort of like a little crown. And the Sunset features a round shape on the front. They can be worn with the design up or down, looks pretty cool both ways! All rings come in silver and brass.

The bracelet.
The cuff bracelet is made of brass but it also can be done in silver. It features a wavy design on the front of the bracelet and it's perfect to stack with other bracelets! 

The earrings: 

The earrings, oh the earrings! I just love them. Not only because they were the origin of the collection and the subconscious gifts of my sleepy mind but because the shape and contrasts are beautiful. They are made of brass ans sterling silver.

The necklaces: 
I made two necklaces, one is the Heat Wave necklace, a core to the collection and the other is the carved necklace. I originally planned to make a pair of earrings to complement this necklace but couldn't find the time, maybe in the future! This necklace is a long beauty that features a simple U shape for pendant and I carved a little line pattern on it. It's very simple, very minimalist and a fave of mine!

A winter day

A while ago I made this little bronze house. I made it because I wanted a paperweight for myself and well, because I am obsessed with houses, so the two things came together quite nicely. I love my little house and I use it mostly as a small sculpture that sits on my desk, beside some of my treasures like my rock collection and old photos. 

Since the beginning I though I'd put it on my Etsy shop but I just couldn't get myself to photograph it. I think my mind works funny about my product photography: When I design something I see stories around the piece and my mind doesn't wait long to start imagining, seeing how these stories look, so it's not just the item but what's around it, what it means. And when I made the little house there was a lot of daydreaming and imagining about it so I knew the kind of photos I wanted to take to show it to you. When the particular idea/the plan for the shoot didn't quite translate good out of the daydream, I didn't push it, I just let it rest there knowing it'd come. Some weeks ago I was working on the studio and there was copious snow falling outside; the little bronze house shoot came to mind again and I said "yes, a winter scene. In a forest." And I started cutting the little paper trees. I put a piece of  white tissue paper covering the trees to make it look softer but I was delighted when the paper made the scene look like "snowing", at least looks so to me! hehehe, my imaginations runs wild, I tell you. You can see bellow how it looks without the paper. 

Anyway, the little bronze house as well as the photos you see here, are very special to me, I hope you enjoy them.
